Warehousing Solutions and Cold Storage from Zipperlock

Arch Steel Buildings provide warehousing solution for a tire shopArch Steel buildings are suitable as warehousing solutions and cold storage for manufacturing and inventory. Any situation where stock must be kept on hand for fast delivery, arch style buildings are an ideal solution.
We were having no end of trouble with thieves taking tires out of the compound," explains Doug Sharp, manager-owner of the Fountain Tire Shop on Calgary's south side. "We had to do something and it seemed like the only answer was to put our tires inside a building." It was costing Doug's business thousands of dollars every time the thieves struck.

Still, how much can you afford to spend on a warehousing solution for cold storage. After checking out several types of buildings he decided on a 48' by 200' Zipperlock. "Nobody could touch Zipperlock for price," says Doug. "We looked at a fabric covered building and it was comparable in price, but far less secure."

Cold storage for a tire inventoryThen came the real work. This Fountain Tire Shop is located in the city, right on the edge of the Foothills industrial area. Any building he put up was going to have to meet some very stringent building and fire codes. "The people at Zipperlock were a big help," Doug recalls. "There were a lot of hoops for their engineering people to go through, by they did it." A full concrete wall is built across the centre of the building. The east wall, which is adjacent to the end of the property, is covered up to 10' high with fire retardant spray. The spray has a 2 hour fire rating. The building had to have a painted finish - no problem with Zipperlock. "All these details caused a big time delay, but once we started it took only 3 to 4 weeks for everything to be completed, " says Doug. "Surely you wouldn't have put up anything else so fast."

The concrete wall does offer an advantage, by separating the building into two. This Fountain Tire Shop shares space with another of Doug's businesses, a fire retreading plant. They specialize in retreads for heavy truck and commercial use. Retread tires are stored on the south end while passenger tires are kept at the other end. Walk in doors, adjacent to the concrete centre wall provide easy access for the yard, and large overhead doors were installed at each end. Although Doug doesn't intend building it at this time the Zipperlock has the height to add a mezzanine for additional storage.
When asked if he would put up a Zipperlock again he says, "Definitely! My father-in-law has had a Zipperlock on his farm for about 15 years and he's as pleased as I am."
