Fertilizer Storage at the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool
Endwalls of the Zipperlock are supported by reinforcing cable. Product is stored up to 4' on the sidewalls, to a total above ground height of 7'. In total the Zipperlock can hold approximately 1600 tons of product. Farmers in the Wilkie area of Saskatchewan grow a lot of grain. Likely the reason that the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool Elevator there is the eighth largest handling facility in the province. When you grow a lot of grain, you're likely to buy a lot of fertilizer, again the probable reason that this same elevator owns a sophisticated fertilizer storage and blending plant. Neil Haeusler, manager of the elevators in Wilkie, Redford, and Thackeray is very pleased to have this plant in his operation. "A facility like this is much better than an outside setup with fertilizer bins. Because our product is never exposed to the weather we can keep it in good shape and we haven't any loss", states Neil. |
